Olympic Torch

Water Cycle- Students have been studying the water cycle and the four components. Check out their comic life narratives on the water cycle.

Our trip to the Famous People Theatre is tomorrow. Please bring a small snack to eat after the play and dress appropriately for the weather.

Vow of Silence- Students worked on a concept map after brainstroming their thoughts and feeling about the Vow of Silence. Concept mapping allows students to make higher order connections between concepts and ideas by using linking words.











Interview confirmations were sent home today.

Student of the Month-Congratulations to Leo and Kinaya for being selected for November's Student of the Month. You both showed committment to your learning and being inclusive leaders in our WE classroom.

Monday November 23, 2009 is our second trip to Wychwood Barns. Please dress appropriately for the weather. All volunteer helpers please arrive at school at 1:00 pm.

Vow of Silence: I am so proud of the students in Room 206 and showing a commitment to global action by being silent today and showing solidarity. Great Work! Remember that today McMurrich Student's showed that They were loud, strong and silent.

Media Literacy- to get prepared for the Vow of Silence students learned about the different areas of the media triangle. During the weekend, look closely at advertisements either on tv or in the newspaper. How do they promote there product?

Science- disucss with your parents the elements of the water cycle

Math- discuss the concept of time- identify when you have dinner, go to extra curricular, bedtime or family time. Big ideas is to identify time to the 1/4 hour, 1/2 hour and hour and how they are equivalent to one another 1 hour = 60 minutes, 1/2 hour = 30 minutes

Visual Arts- Today in class we learned about two elements of design an artist may use when creating a piece of work. Try to find these two elements (colour and lines) in art pieces at home or in the community and discuss how the artist may have used these two elements to convey an effectively message.

Science- Try to find examples of the water cycle at home and in the community

Congratulations to all the students in Room 209 on today's performance at the Remembrance Day Assembly. Your interpretation of peace was well thought out and meaningful

Remembrance Day-We have been working on the concept of Remembrance Day and using Drama and Dance to interpret the meaning of Peace. We will be performing at the Remembrance Day Ceremony on Wednesday November 11, 2009 at 10:30 please join us at 10:15.

Apple Crisp- Congratulations Room 206 on becoming a baker today. We learned how language and math are integrated into cooking. The importance of working as a team, being organized, measuring and having all ingredients necessary. Thank you to all families for helping out by sending apples to school.

Engineer Meagan came by today for her first visit to talk about Bio dome and how it relates to the water cycle. We are excited about creating our very own bio domes in class and watching the water cycle in action.

High Park- Room 206 are "Nuts about seeds." Despite all the rain we had a fun filled day of learning. Thank you to John and Saima for volunteering on our trip.

Halloween Treats- It is very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle to be productive during the school day. If you choose to send candy to school with your child please ensure that it is a nut free product. Also, we would appreciate students bringing no more than ONE candy or chocolate or chip snack to school a day.

Math-Thank you to Mr Chamale our Math Coach for visiting our class today and working on the concept of place value and skip counting.

Language- Today in language I introduced the concept of peace and the positive and negative attributes. Also we learned how to alphabetically order words with the same letter.

Field Trip- Tomorrow is our very first field trip (Yeah!)

Students should bring the following to school:
1. Dress appropriately for the weather- rain boots, umbrella, coat, hat (Dress in layers)
2. A litterless lunch

We will be going to High Park- Rain or Shine

After our trip we will be going to the very exciting, very scary Haunted House!

Yellow Homework Binders- New reading log sheet and poem of the week has been sent home today and should be returned next Tuesday November 3, 2009. Please complete a minimum of five sections of the reading log along with the reading response sheet.

Verification Forms- all verifications forms need to be returned to school

Language- We have just finished reading the Golden Rule in class and discussing that the Golden Rule starts with the individual. Discuss with your child what the Golden Rule means to you and discuss different examples.

Math- Thank you to Mr Chamale our Math Coach for visiting us on Monday October 26. Our class worked on place value and different counting strategies.

Room 210's annual Haunted House will be on Friday October 30, 2009, please bring in money and signed forms

Blog Release Forms- Please sign and return blog release forms so that students can begin their blogging adventure

Reading Log- Reading log sheets are in the homework binders please complete and return on Monday

Language- Today in class we discussed what books we are "WILD ABOUT"- parents discuss with your child books they are "wild about" and books that you are "wild about"

Math- our class is working on identifing patterns and sorting objects according to different attributes- look in your cupboard or fridge this week how can you sort the items in those spaces and what are the attributes you used to sort them?

YELLOW HOMEWORK BINDERS- All aspects of the homework binder will be introduced at school first. Homework binders will be sent home on Tuesday and should be returned on Monday.

Green Sheet- is an introduction to homework in Room 206, this was also sent home in September.

White Sheet-is a reading comprehension sheet that may be used when asking your child questions while reading together. These question can help develop higher order thinking skills and enhance understanding of the text.

Yellow Sheet- An introduction to our 2010 Olympic Mascot Guest and instructions of at home and at school activities that will occur over the next school year. Our new Olympic friends will be coming home with your child starting in November.

Weekly Poems-Each week two poems will be sent home, these poems will also be introduced in class and may be used as a reading log entry.

Weekly Log Sheet-Each week students will be required to fill in their reading log sheet and at the end of the week respond to one book.

Class Trip- All forms are due back by Wednesday October 21, 2009

School Information Sheets- All information sheets are due back on Friday October 23, please return so that your childs information is updated in the office.

Golden Shoe- Wow! Room 206 I am very proud of your committment to a being healthy and coming in 2nd place for the most laps completed for the month of September. Our next challenge is Jumping Jacks....lets start jumping and the Golden Shoe will be ours.

Curriculum Night-Thank you to all parents/guardian for attending curriculum night. Parents who were unable to attend, will receive a copy of the curriculum handout and blog brochure in your childs Communication Folder. Homework Yellow Binders will be coming home in two weeks.

Congratulations everyone! We are now officially in our month of school. It is an honour for me to have the opportunity to teach, learn and explore new initiatives with all of you this year. This blog will communication forum of any class assignments and school activities. Items in this left side of the blog will be archived after a few days and can be retrieved from the Archives link at the bottom right of the blog. The items on the right side of the blog will be viewed and updated as needed. Some items will remain in view throughout the year. Special events within the class and school community will also be posted within the right side of this blog.
