Our trip to the Famous People Theatre is tomorrow. Please bring a small snack to eat after the play and dress appropriately for the weather.
Vow of Silence- Students worked on a concept map after brainstroming their thoughts and feeling about the Vow of Silence. Concept mapping allows students to make higher order connections between concepts and ideas by using linking words.

Vow of Silence: I am so proud of the students in Room 206 and showing a commitment to global action by being silent today and showing solidarity. Great Work! Remember that today McMurrich Student's showed that They were loud, strong and silent.
Media Literacy- to get prepared for the Vow of Silence students learned about the different areas of the media triangle. During the weekend, look closely at advertisements either on tv or in the newspaper. How do they promote there product?

Math- discuss the concept of time- identify when you have dinner, go to extra curricular, bedtime or family time. Big ideas is to identify time to the 1/4 hour, 1/2 hour and hour and how they are equivalent to one another 1 hour = 60 minutes, 1/2 hour = 30 minutes

Visual Arts- Today in class we learned about two elements of design an artist may use when creating a piece of work. Try to find these two elements (colour and lines) in art pieces at home or in the community and discuss how the artist may have used these two elements to convey an effectively message.

Apple Crisp- Congratulations Room 206 on becoming a baker today. We learned how language and math are integrated into cooking. The importance of working as a team, being organized, measuring and having all ingredients necessary. Thank you to all families for helping out by sending apples to school.
Engineer Meagan came by today for her first visit to talk about Bio dome and how it relates to the water cycle. We are excited about creating our very own bio domes in class and watching the water cycle in action.

High Park- Room 206 are "Nuts about seeds." Despite all the rain we had a fun filled day of learning. Thank you to John and Saima for volunteering on our trip.
Halloween Treats- It is very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle to be productive during the school day. If you choose to send candy to school with your child please ensure that it is a nut free product. Also, we would appreciate students bringing no more than ONE candy or chocolate or chip snack to school a day.
Math-Thank you to Mr Chamale our Math Coach for visiting our class today and working on the concept of place value and skip counting.
Language- Today in language I introduced the concept of peace and the positive and negative attributes. Also we learned how to alphabetically order words with the same letter.

Yellow Homework Binders- New reading log sheet and poem of the week has been sent home today and should be returned next Tuesday November 3, 2009. Please complete a minimum of five sections of the reading log along with the reading response sheet.

Language- We have just finished reading the Golden Rule in class and discussing that the Golden Rule starts with the individual. Discuss with your child what the Golden Rule means to you and discuss different examples.

Student of the Month-Congratulations to Jordan and Alyssa for being selected for September's Student of the Month. You both showed committment to your learning and responsibiltiy to school and class rules.
Golden Shoe- Wow! Room 206 I am very proud of your committment to a being healthy and coming in 2nd place for the most laps completed for the month of September. Our next challenge is Jumping Jacks....lets start jumping and the Golden Shoe will be ours.

Welcome to our Grade 2 Blog
Congratulations everyone! We are now officially in our month of school. It is an honour for me to have the opportunity to teach, learn and explore new initiatives with all of you this year. This blog will communication forum of any class assignments and school activities. Items in this left side of the blog will be archived after a few days and can be retrieved from the Archives link at the bottom right of the blog. The items on the right side of the blog will be viewed and updated as needed. Some items will remain in view throughout the year. Special events within the class and school community will also be posted within the right side of this blog.
